Abstract

1,236,907. Junction pieces; pipe couplings; pipes. HEPWORTH IRON CO. Ltd. 22 May, 1970 [25 Feb., 1969], -No. 10013/69. Headings F2G and F2P. A plastics junction piece 1A with a central radially-inwardly directed pipe stop, formed by, e.g., projections 2, has rims 3A at each end of castable resilient material cast in situ so as to be secured to the sleeve. As shown, the junction piece 1A has circumferential slots 5 in its end into which passes some of the rim material when the rims 3A are cast, but alternatively the slots may be axially directed or may be round holes, or the inner ends of the junction piece may have circumferential grooves (10), Fig. 2 (not shown), or be roughened &c. The rims 3A may be cast on to the junction piece 1A while the latter is freshly moulded so that fusion or bonding occurs. The rims 3A have sealing lips 8. The junction piece 1A may be rigid or resilient, and may be made from polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, polyacetal, polycarbonate, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, or polypropylene; the rims 3A may be made from polyurethane.
