985,434. Powder distributers. W. T. TEAGLE. Aug. 31, 1962 [June 27, 1961], No. 23209/61. Heading A1D. In a machine for broadcasting seeds, fertilizer, granular or powdered materials of the kind in which the material is discharged from a hopper 5 on to a rotary distributer 8 to eject the material on to the ground by centrifugal force, the mounting for the hopper comprises a plate 1 having an opening 7 in register with the hopper outlet, and a retaining rail 15 shaped to conform to the outer contour of the hopper and secured to cross-pieces 13 by bolts 16 passing with considerable clearance through the cross-pieces so that the rail 15 has limited pivotal movement between an upper position in which it engages the hopper and a lower position in which it is out of contact with the hopper. The hopper may be secured to the rail by bolts 17 which hook over the rim of the hopper or by means of S-shaped clips which engage over the hopper rim and under the rail. The cross-pieces 13 are attached to a support frame which also includes uprights 3 adapted for attachment to tractor lift links or to a trailer towed by the tractor. The rotary distributer 8 is driven from the tractor power shaft 10 through gearing 11 and shaft 12 or from the axle of the trailer. Mechanism as disclosed in Specification 785,829 is preferably provided to vary the amount and direction of material falling through the opening 7.
