Abstract
The stability of an aqueous fertilizer suspension containing clay is increased by the incorpoartion of up to 0.1% (based on the total fertilizer) of the reaction product of formaldehyde with naphthalene-2-sulphonic acid. The proportion of clay (based on the total fertilizer) may be 0.1-0.5%. The proportion of reaction product (based on the clay) may be 2-20%. The fertilizers present may be ammonium phosphate, ammonium nitrate, potassium chloride, and urea. The ratio of ammonium nitrate to urea may be 3-4 to 1. The fertilizer suspension may be formed by slowly cooling to ambient temperature with stirring a hot aqueous fertilizer solution containing clay and reaction product and having a pH of 6.5.
