984,747. Sawing. M. C. O'GORMAN Feb. 3, 1964 [Nov. 3, 1962], No. 41653/62. Heading B5L. An attachment for securing one end of a hacksaw blade to a hacksaw frame comprises jaws 20, 21, Fig. 2, presenting a slot 23 to receive one end of the blade, and screw-clamping means 30 adjustable to cause the jaws to grip a blade in the slot, the jaws being carried by a stem 40 adapted for attachment to the hacksaw frame. The jaws are formed by a slot in a single cylindrical or rectangular part 25 and are embraced by a collar 30 having one or more screws 33 which can be operated to urge the jaws together to clamp the blade therebetween, the jaws being faced with soft metal linings. The stem 40 extends from the part 25 and has a hole for engagement by the conventional pin on the frame or is formed with a thread for engagement by the usual wing nut or handle of the frame. In further embodiments, the attachment comprises a rectangular or circular body 125, Fig. 6, having a rectangular bore 60, one surface of which constitutes a fixed jaw covered by a soft metal facing 121. The other jaw 120 is mounted on pins 65 slidable in holes 66 and also has a soft metal facing. Screws 33 are provided for urging the jaws together to clamp a blade therebetween. The attachments may be used to fix broken ends of blades, or blades without holes, to the frame.
