Abstract

984,724. Regulating switches. CANTEEN INTERNATIONAL S.A. Sept. 29, 1961 [Oct. 15, 1960], No. 35183/61. Heading H2B. A selector switch has a number of contact arm carriers which can be independently set in succession by a common mechanism, the carrier being coupled through separate members with the setting mechanism. In the form shown, two rotary discs 10 carrying contacts 27, 28 cooperable with fixed contacts 29 are loosely mounted on a common spindle 1 which carries a telephone dial-type of operating member (Fig. 14, not shown). Cams 3 are loosely mounted on the spindle 1 which also has secured to it entrainment discs 2. The starting position is shown in Fig. 1 wherein discs 2a, 2b, 2c are biased to the left by a spring 9, switch discs 10 are biased to the left by springs 11b, 11c and cams 3b, 3c, 3d are held against stops 4b, 4c, 4d against the pull of springs 8b, 8c, 8d by pins 6a, 6b, 6c on discs 2 and by lugs 15b, 15c on discs 10. In addition, locking pawls 14b, 14c cooperable with ratchet teeth 12b, 12c on discs 10 are in a different plane. To set the contacts, the pawls are first moved into the plane of the ratchet teeth, and the spindle 1 is then rotated. Cam 3b follows disc 2a to the right until it meets a stop 6a, and a pin 13b carried by disc 10b is pushed through into a notch 16b in disc 2b so that further movement of the spindle causes the disc 2b and pin 13b to carry disc 10b along to the desired position where it is held by pawl 14b. Meanwhile cam 3c is locked by the upper end of a pin 13c in disc 10c, since a notch 16c in disc 2c has also moved to the right, Fig. 3. On release of spindle 1 all parts except disc 10b return to the starting position ready for the next operation of the spindle which causes the cam 3c to be moved to the right since this is not now blocked by the lug 15b of disc 10b. Consequently, the pin 13c is pushed into notch 16c in disc 2c and disc 10c is thereby moved to the right. The pawls 14 are on a common spindle 18 and are released by moving out of the plane of discs 10 which thus return to the starting position.
