Abstract
983,896. Magazine firearms. BIRMING- HAM SMALL ARMS CO. Ltd. June 22, 1961 [March 26, 1960], No. 10776/60. Heading F3C. Relates to magazine firearms which normally fire, e.g. 7À62 mm. cartridges, and which are required to be adapted for miniature ammunition practice to fire smaller cartridges, e.g. 0À22 inch. According to the invention a receiver 5 Fig. 1, for holding the smaller cartridges, has fixed thereto a carrier 7 adapted to fit slidably within the main magazine 1 and to be retained therein so that the smaller cartridges are fed successively to a position for feeding into the breech chamber. To mount the receiver 5, the bottom plate 3a of the magazine 1 is removed to release the platform 2 with its spring 3, the receiver 5 is then inserted and the parts 2, 3, 3a replaced so that the platform 2 engages the bottom of the receiver 5 and urges projecting portions 11, 11a of the carrier 7 against the inwardly turned cartridge (larger) retaining portions 4, Fig. 2 (not shown) of the magazine. In another embodiment the carrier 7 is retained in position by a U-spring 15, Fig. 6. Outwardly turned portions 10 of the carrier 7 engage the sides of the magazine 1 and a nylon block 13 secured to the carrier is provided with inclined grooves 14, Fig. 5 (not shown), for guiding the smaller cartridges into the breech chamber.
