Abstract

983,799. Heat-developable diazotype paper. CHEMISCHE FABRIEK L. VAN DER GRINTEN N.V. Dec. 14,1962 [Dec. 21,1961],No. 47343/62. Heading G2C. Heat-developable two component diazotype paper comprises a paper support having a water content of 2 to 7% by weight and carrying (a) a lightsensitive layer which contains a diazonium compound, an azo coupling component, and acid reacting compound and 1 to 6 g/m<SP>2</SP> of a finely divided thermoplastic polymer of an olefinically unsaturated monomer having a terminal methylene group which polymer dissolves or swells in a solvent for polyvinylacetate (the fine division being achieved by application from an aqueous dispersion) (b) a thin hydrophobic thermoplastic film layer comprising a polymer of a monomer having a terminal methylene group or a hydrophobic cellulose derivative and (c) a light-transmitting layer containing a filler and an acid-neutralising organic material melting below 100‹C. and selected from substantially non-volatile non-aromatic amines and their salts with weak acids. Layer (b) acts as a barrier layer at normal temperatures but transmits the amine on heating. The paper may be developed by heating below 120‹C. or by conventional ammonia vapour development, preferably from the paper side. Polyvinyl acetate of molecular weight above 500, 000 is preferred in layer (b) but numerous other polymers and cellulose derivatives are listed. Several examples are given of each of the compounds used and 14 specific examples are provided of its preparation of papers according to the invention. Specification 815,005 is referred to.
