Abstract

483,609. Photographic stripping-films. KODAK, Ltd. May 18, 1937, No. 13789. Convention date, May 16, 1936. [Class 98 (ii)] A stripping-film comprises a temporary support 10, e.g. of paper, a permanent support 14, a water - soluble adhesive layer 13, and between the adhesive layer 13 and the temporary support 10, a water-insoluble colloid layer 11, e.g. of a cellulose ester or of synthetic resin. The cellulose ester may be cellulose nitrate or cellulose acetate or a mixed ester such as cellulose acetate propionate, and is dissolved in a solvent such as a mixture of 85 per cent methyl alcohol and 15 per cent acetone, or pure acetone, or glycol monomethyl ether. The adhesive layer may consist of a 10-15 per cent aqueous solution of water soluble glue or a mixture of 8 per cent liquid glue and 8 per cent glycerine in 84 per cent water. The permanent support is a cellulose ester and should be water permeable, if necessary through the addition of materials such as glyceryl bori-borate, mono-, di- and tri-acetin, lactic acid, glycerine, triethanolamine derivatives, lithium chloride, cadmium bromide &c. A gelatin sublayer 2 may be applied over the cellulose ester layer 12, and a further gelatin sublayer is applied between the support 14 and the emulsion layer 16. Two layers 17, 18 of cellulose ester and gelatin respectively are applied on the opposite side of the paper support 10 to prevent curling and water absorption by the paper support during processing. The layer 11 may also be of synthetic resin and is then protected by a thin cellulose ester layer. Resins such as polymerized vinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetal, alkyd resins and other condensation products may be used. An antihalation coating of baryta containing a dye may be applied between the support 10 and the layer 11. The watersoluble adhesive layer may also contain gelatin or polyvinyl alcohol resin. Other layers may be included to cause the essential layers to adhere to the supports &c. Specification 351,082, [Group IV], is referred to.
