Abstract

530,618. Photographic films. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). April 14, 1939, No. 11307. Addition to 520,157. [Class 98 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] A film is provided with an anti-halation layer comprising a polyvinyl mixed ester of phthalic acid and another acid, for example, polyvinyl acetate phthalate, polyvinyl acetate propionate phthalate, or polyvinyl acetate butyrate phthalate, and a dye such as Spirit Nigrosine N.B. Alternatively, the layer of polyvinyl mixed ester may be applied first and then dyed by application of a methanol solution of Spirit Jet containing a wetting agent. The support may be cellulose nitrate, cellulose organic ester, synthetic resin or glass, and the antihalation layer may be applied to a multilayer film. The polyvinyl mixed ester may be mixed with other colloids such as cellulose acetate phthalate. Polyvinyl acetate phthalate is prepared by heating a solution of polyvinyl acetate containing also water and phthelic anhydride under pressure in an autoclave. Specification 529,035 is referred to.
