983,583. Electrophotographic developing and fixing apparatus. KALLE A.G. June 30 1961 [June 30, 1960], No. 23749/61. Heading G2H. Charge images on electrophotographic sheet material are continuously developed and fixed by passing the sheet through a confined space in which it is wetted with a liquid developer and then through a confined space isolated from the developing zone in which the wet sheet is heated to fix the developer image and finally dried, the vapours evolved by the heating being removed from the fixing zone by gas stream. For this method a housing is provided divided by a partition into developing and fixing compartments, and passages are provided in the outer housing and partition walls for allowing continuous entry and exit of the sheet material, the developing compartment containing a tray for liquid developer and a pair of rollers one of which dips into the liquid developer for application of developer to the sheet and the fixing compartment containing means for heating and drying the sheet and means for introducing a gas stream and removing the gas and the vapours formed by the heating. Preferably the housing is provided with a flue and infra red heaters are provided in the fixing compartment while the roller dipping into the developer liquid is electrically conductive. Vapour condensing means may be arranged above the two compartments and a device for effecting gas flow is arranged above the condensing means.
