Abstract

309,636. Motley, L. Jan. 7, 1928. Waterproofing; proofing processes. - In a method of waterproofing sacks and other articles, means are provided for conveying the articles through a tank of waterproofing medium and then through a drying chamber. The apparatus comprises a tank 2 and a drying chamber 3, and an endless belt conveyer 4 which passes between rollers 6, 6a over a roller 7 and below rollers 8, 9 immersed in the liquid in the tank, and thence between rollers 10, 11, which are preferably steam heated. The conveyer then passes through the drying chamber 3, and back to the rollers 6, 6a. The chamber 3 is heated by steam pipes 12, and is provided with a tray 16 by means of which excess waterproofing medium is returned to the tank 2. When a volatile solvent is used in the medium, a condenser 18 is used to return evaporated and recondensed solvent to the tank. Any form of clip or fastening may be provided on the conveyer to hold the sacks &c. in position, and the conveyer may consist of a series of parallel wires. Cams or other means for releasing the clips may be provided at 20 to remove the sacks from the conveyer.
