Abstract
983,282. Transformers. BRUCE PEEBLES & CO. Ltd. April 24, 1961 plan. 25, 1960], No. 2731/60. Heading H1T. To facilitate transport of a large transformer or reactor the winding or each winding is enclosed in one or more sealed containers so that the core can be assembled and removed while the windings remain inside the containers. In Fig. 1 each winding 11 is wound on an insulating cylindrical sleeve 12. Top and bottom steel closure plates 14 have three holes which closely fit around the sleeves 12 and a steel sealing tube 15 (Fig. 2) with an outward annular flange 16 fits within each insulating sleeve end, a flexible gasket ring 17 between the flanges 16 plates 14 effecting a seal. An outer steel wall 18 completes the sealed container containing all three windings. Suitable apertures (not shown) are left for bushings, tap change gear &c. On assembling the transformer core limbs 13 are threaded through the insulating sleeves 12 and interleaved with a yoke 19, and a core cover 21 is sealed to each closure plate 14. The winding enclosure and the core enclosure may have separate liquid cooling systems, and the containers may be of fibre glass laminate. To avoid extraneous induced currents a non- conductive fillet (not shown) is inserted in any metal casing member surrounding an individual core limb. Alternatively each winding on each core may be in a separate container each with a separate cooling system and a complete casing may enclose the core and windings in their individual containers.
