Abstract

418,473. Transformers ; R÷ntgen-ray tubes. MULLER AKT.-GES., C. H. F., 24, R÷ntgenstrasse, Hamburg, Germany. Dec. 22, 1933, No. 36184. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1932. [Class 38 (ii).] A transformer is combined structurally with its load element which may be a R÷ntgen-ray tube. The transformer core 1 may comprise packets 2 of rectangular laminations arranged around a central space in which the discharge tube is accommodated, the packets being held in position by a corrugated cylindrical housing 3. The primary windings 20 and secondary windings 21, 22 are arranged in sections separated to permit rays from the discharge tubes to pass out through a window 24. The sections 21, 22 of the secondary are series-connected and their inner ends are brought to the potential of the core, the high tensions ends being arranged at the outside. The R÷ntgen-ray tube comprises a metal middle portion 4 to which are sealed glass necks 5, 6 which carry stoppers 15, 16 supporting the conductors 17, 18 leading to the electrodes. The parts of the necks 5, 6 lying within the transformer core are coated with tinfoil. The ends of the tube are protected by metal hoods 11, 12 secured to the housing 3. The device may be supported by a bail 25 provided with trunnions 26, 27 engaging the hoods 11, 12. A cooling fan may be attached to one of the hoods preferably that adjacent the anode. Modifications are described in which there is employed a shell-type transformer, and a coretype transformer, the core in both cases being divided along the wound limb to accommodate the load element.
