A post office relay having two contact spring pile-ups mounted side by side on the yoke has a permanent magnet positioned between the pile-ups to act as a magnetic spark blow-out device for the contacts. The magnet 16 is polarized so that the side facing the pile-up 7 is of opposite polarity to that facing pile-up 8. An insulating member 17, secured with a buffer block 13 for the fixed contact springs to the yoke, carries the permanent magnet.
