982,170. Travelling wave tubes; wave absorbers. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. Sept. 2, 1963 [Sept. 3, 1962], No. 34531/63. Drawings to Specification. Headings H1D and H1W. A wave absorber for an electron tube, e.g. a travelling wave tube, is in the form of a body constructed from a mixture consisting of or including a powdered metal mixed with a powdered ceramic and powdered quartz, the body including a coating of metal or a part of the surface of the body remote from the absorbing surface thereof. The powdered metal may be chromium or molybdenum or a mixture of these metals, and the powdered ceramic may be aluminium oxide or sapphire or a mixture of these materials. The grain size of the powder is approximately equal to the depth of penetration of the waves into the absorber and the thickness of the coating is between 10 and 20Á. The metal coating may be of molybdenum-manganese, or nickel. A further metal layer may be applied to the coating, and the layer consisting of copper, silver or soldering material and in the form of a flat strip or a corrugated layer. The metal coating may act as a good conductor for the heat produced in the absorber.
