Abstract

A handle bar 1 mounts a twist grip body 2 having a base 3 pivotally mounting a clutch control lever 5, and a roller 8 rotatably mounted on the handlebar and connected by cables 21 to a gear-changing mechanism 22, 23 is provided with entraining slots 13 adapted to be engaged by two spring catches 6, 7 in the base 3 which pass through a disc 10. The disc has a tongue 14 which penetrates into the fixed bar 1, and mounts a plug 15 on which is supported a return spring 16. One end of the spring bears against a protuberance 17 on the disc, and the other end bears against a stop on the grip 2. Also on the disc is a protuberance 18 having a slot 19 engaging a part 20 of the clutch lever so that the grip and clutch lever which move together cannot be rotated until the clutch lever has been depressed and the clutch disengaged. In operation the grip 2 is held in its intermediate position O by the spring 16 until the clutch lever 5 has been depressed. When the grip is turned to one of its extreme positions X or Y, one of the catches 6 or 7 always projects through one of the cut-outs 11 or 12 in the disc 10 and engages a slot 13 in the roller 8 so that the roller may be turned angularly by the length of the respective cut-out, thus pulling on a cable 21 and operating the gear change lever 23 which is held in the changed position by arresting means (not shown). When the twist grip is released it returns to position O, the catches 6, 7 ride back over the disc 10 and leave the roller 8 and gear lever 23 in position so that further gear changes to positions I-IV, Fig. 2, may take place by further twists of the grip.
