Abstract

980,842. Potato planting machines. T. B. GARVIE. Sept. 26, 1963 [Sept. 26, 1962], No. 36532/62. Heading A1D. A machine for planting potatoes comprises an upper rotatable disc 2 carrying a plurality of compartments open at the bottom in which potatoes are placed, an upper stationary plate 4 formed with at least one port above which the compartments of the upper disc pass as the disc rotates allowing the potato in each compartment to pass to a lower rotatable disc 8 which carries a plurality of compartments the bottoms of which are closed by hinged trap doors arranged to swing downwardly as each compartment passes over a port in a lower stationary disc 14. As shown the plate 4 is formed with a coned boss 7 which projects through a central hole in the upper disc. Rotatable discs 22 which may be driven, form a furrow into which is deposited fertilizer from a supply 24 through shoot 23 which is covered by a tine 25. A share 27 is provided to close the drill and seats 28 are provided for operators who place the potatoes in the compartments.
