Abstract
980,827. Container closures. C. C. CHOW. Nov. 7, 1963 [Nov. 8, 1962], No. 42265/62. Headings B8D and B8T. A closure for a collapsible container moulded with pleated walls comprises a screw cap 10, a sealing member 14 of resilient plastics material having a central depression 19 fitting within the mouth of the container and an outer skirt 18 fitting over the edge 23 of the mouth, and a disc 13 of resilient material which urges the wall 17 of the depression against the inside of the container mouth. The screw cap may have an aperture 11 to receive a flanged spout or nozzle, in which case a second disc 12 is interposed between the cap and the disc 13 to prevent the latter from protruding through the aperture. In the embodiment of Fig. 3 the base 35 and the lower part of the inner wall of the sealing member is thickened and a dome-shaped disc 33 sits on the shoulder so formed. The container is moulded of polyethylene or polypropylene with its base 28 and neck 15 relatively rigid, the base being stiffened by a rib 30. The disc 13 may be of a resilient plastics material or a pad of rubber.
