Abstract

980,599. Making stoppers. AMERICAN FLANGE & MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. Aug. 14, 1963 [Aug. 14, 1962], No. 32202/63. Heading B3A. [Also in Division B8] A rotatively secured closure plug has an actuating means engaging insert 10 (Fig. 3) with lugs 19 and a flat peripheral portion 17 engaged between a shoulder 4 (Fig. 4) and a portion 3 which is curled inwardly by an anvil 22. The insert is bent up from a flat metal strip so that the lugs are externally hollow and the side edges 20 may lie against the wall of the screw plug. The curling anvil 22 has an annular recess 25 which is shaped so as to curl the portion 3 into a bead with its edge 21 lying below the shoulder 4 where not in contact with the peripheral part 17 of the insert, thus preventing relative rotation of the insert. A gasket may be placed between the shoulder 4 and the screw portion of the plug.
