Abstract

Powdered iron ore is produced by reducing lump iron ore with gases containing CO and H2 at 700-1100 DEG C. to form ferrous oxide, quenching and crushing the ferrous oxide and reducing it to iron by hydrogen in a fluidized bed at 600-750 DEG C. The gas used in the first stage may be obtained by the incomplete combustion of gaseous or liquid hydrocarbons, natural gas, or gas from a gas generator. Specification 980,425 is referred to.
