Abstract
979,849. Securing rotors on shafts. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 12, 1962 [March 20, 1961], No. 10088/61. Heading F2U. [Also in Division H2] The rotor of an electrical machine is frictionally secured to the shaft by drawing a tapered ring on to a co-operating tapered portion of the rotor. As shown, the wound rotor core 1 is assembled on hollow sleeve 3 which is then securely clamped to shaft 2 by drawing tapered ring 4 on to tapered portion 5 of the sleeve by means of screws 6. An improved grip is obtained by having an axial slit in the sleeve and by lightly knurling the shaft. The screws may screw into a separate ring retained on the sleeve by clip 8a, as shown, or screw directly into the sleeve, Figs. 2, 3 (not shown). If a similar device is used to secure the other end of the rotor through bolts may be used to tighten both ends simultaneously. In another modification an externally tapered collet is forced against an internal taper on the sleeve to secure the rotor.
