Abstract
H2S is selectively removed from admixture with CO2, with or without the application of pressure, by washing with an aqueous scrubbing solution of a basic alkali metal compound and a neutral amino acid, wherein the atomic ratio of amino acid nitrogen to alkali metal in the solution throughout the process is greater than 1, preferably from 1.5 to 2. Amino acids specified are: N-dimethylglycocoll, N-diethylglycocoll, N-dimethylanthranilic acid and an N-alkyltaurocholic acid. The alkali metal content is reduced by precipitation and separation of bicarbonate by treatment with CO2, prior to the scrubbing.ALSO:H2S is selectively removed from admixture with CO2, with or without the application of pressure, by washing with an aqueous scrubbing solution of a basic alkali metal compound and a neutral amino acid, wherein the atomic ratio of amino acid nitrogen to alkali metal in the solution throughout the process is greater than 1, preferably from 1.5 to 2. Amino acids specified are: N-dimethylglycocoll, N-diethylglycocoll, N-dimethylanthranilic acid and an N-alkyltaurocholic acid. The alkali metal content is reduced by precipitation and separation of bicarbonate by treatment with CO2, prior to the scrubbing.
