Abstract

Gaseous hydrogen chloride is separated from hydrogen fluoride by passing the gas mixture through an absorption apparatus with a liquid feed consisting of sulphur trioxide and water, preferably in a two-stage countercurrent operation. The composition of the feed may be 22.5 to 6.5 per cent water, preferably 20.0 to 13.8 per cent water.
