Abstract

1,224,687. Gas analysis. MANSFELDKOMBINAT "WILHELM PIECK" VEB. July 17, 1969, No.35996/69 Heading G1B. A process for the determination of sulphur trioxide in a gas stream comprises dividing the steam into two partial currents one of which is conducted through a contact pipe heated to at least 900‹ C. preferably 1000‹ C. whereby the sulphur trioxide is split into sulphur dioxide and oxygen, the other partial current being mixed with water vapour and cooled to remove the sulphur trioxide therein, the sulphur dioxide contents of the two partial currents then being measured and the concentration of sulphur trioxide being determined from the difference in the two measured values. The two sulphur dioxide contents may be measured by the use of a gas chromatograph or an infrared analyser.
