Class 40(3) The concentration of sulphurous gas in a gas stream is determined continuously by measuring the absorption of X-rays from an iron-55 source. Calibration curves may be derived by measuring absorption by pure sulphurous gas, base gas after desulphurization in a cadmium chloride/hydrochloric acid mixture, and mixtures of the two gases in known proportions. The method may be applied to a pipe between an oil refinery and a sulphur recovery plant.
