Abstract

An elastically stretchable cord comprises a core of parallel rubber-elastic threads surrounded by three concentric braided coverings, the innermost braided covering consisting of textile material which is non abrasive as respects contact with the rubber core, the middle covering comprising metal so disposed within the substance of the braid as to prevent infrared rays from being transmitted to the core, and the outer covering comprising braided strands, which are resistant to mechanical injury. The innermost covering may be braided of soft unglazed cotton or alternatively synthetic yarns, which may be spun or balked yarns, and which are resistant to mildew. The middle covering may be braded from metal yarn or such yarns reinforced with tedtile yarns. Alternatively the middle covering may be braided of an organic yarn coated with metal or of an organic material and metal laminated yarn. The outer covering may be braided from nylon coated with vinyl, or other synthetic material may be used, such for example as polypropylene.
