Abstract
In a balloon catheter that area of the catheter tube which lies within the balloon is reinforced by flexible strands disposed substantially parallel to the axis of the tube. The reinforcing strands may be individual filaments or spun yarns and may be of natural or synthetic materials. They may be bonded to the outer surface of the tube or embedded in the tube wall. The provision of such reinforcement prevents stretching of the catheter tube, with consequent reduction of its cross-section, when the balloon is inflated.
