Abstract

978,845. Ventilation. PYLE-NATIONAL CO. Aug. 16, 1963 [May 8, 1963], No. 32546/63. Heading F4V. [Also in Division E1] A combined acoustic and ventilating panel comprises a perforated plate 18 and a sound reflecting perforated plate 22 joined by flanges 20 and 24 and separated by a honeycomb structure 27 secured to both plates, a passage containing air flow control means being attached to the plate 22 for ventilation purposes. As shown in Fig. 1, a false ceiling 11 comprises such panels 13 and further similar panels 12 which may have imperforate upper plates. The panels are joined by the double bending of flanges 21 and may contain sound-absorbing material in the cells of the honeycomb structure. The panels may be connected to an air supply duct 16 by means of a flexible duct 60 and a cylindrical neck 48 mounted over the entrance to a plenum chamber 33. The reflecting plate 22 of the panel is perforated over an area 30 corresponding to that covered by the plenum chamber 33 and the latter is held in place by springs 41 having hooks 42 projecting through apertures 32 in the plate 22. The neck 48 carries a bracket 50 in which is threaded an adjusting screw 51 which acts through a member 52 to adjust the position of valve flaps 53 and 54 pivoted on a spindle 56. The flaps may be spring-biased towards the open position and the valve assembly including the neck 45 may be removable, Fig. 5 (not shown). The space 14 above the false ceiling 11 may be used for a return flow of air from the room through panels not connected to the air supply duct and not having a plenum (see right-hand side of Fig. 1), or the air flow may be reversed, air being supplied to the space 14 and withdrawn through the duct 16.
