978,700. Combine-harvesters. J. A. FREUDENDAHL. Oct. 30, 1963 [Nov. 3, 1962], No. 42802/63. Heading A1F. Relates to a combine-harvester having a cavings riddle 1 through which air is blown obliquely by a fan 2, there being a grating 3 at the rear end of the riddle permitting unthreshed ears to fall into a collecting compartment 4 from which they are returned to the machine through the action of an ejector fan 5. According to the invention the discharge opening of the ejector fan leads into a return duct 6 which passes up over the cavings riddle and opens below a downwardly facing plate 9 which is fastened to the wall 7 of the harvester-body. The base of the collecting compartment 4 slopes towards the faninlet. The purpose of the plate 9 is to effect a separation of heavy grains 10 which fall towards the riddle from light chaff 11 which becomes entrained in the air-blast passing obliquely through the riddle.
