Abstract

1,213,985. Combine harvesters. RANSOMES SIMS & JEFFERIES Ltd. 29 March, 1968 [29 March, 1967], No. 14233/67. Heading A1F. [Also in Division B8] A grain separating mechanism for combine harvesters comprises two rearwardly inclined conveyers, vertically spaced, between which is a crop-accelerating rotor, the assembly being disposed towards the rear of the combine. Crop material is introduced by a reel 3, an auger 7, a conveyer 9 and a beater 15 to a threshing drum 17 and concave 19. The material then passes to a rear beater 21, feeding to a first inclined conveyer 23. Material passes over the end of the conveyer to a rotor 41 which accelerates the material towards a deflector plate 45 and thence to a second inclined conveyer travelling at higher speed than the first, and the front end of which is below the rear end of the first conveyer. Material is thinned both during the fall from the first and second conveyer and in its passage on the second conveyer, facilitating grain separation. Instead of the rotor 41, a fan between the conveyers may effect separation by blowing the material against a deflector plate and thence to the second conveyer. The first conveyer is of chain and slat type, whilst subsequent conveyers are of chain and slat or straw walker type. A third conveyer may be provided after the second one.
