Abstract

An injection moulding machine has one mould half 12, Fig. 1, attached to a fixed platen 6, the other mould half 13 attached to a movable platen 11 which slides on guide columns 4 and is attached by means of a pressure pad 10 to a closing plate 9, and hydraulic means 14 for locking the closing plate 9 on the guide columns 4. In one embodiment (Fig. 2), the locking means consists of clamping bushes 15 mounted on the guide columns so that there are chambers 17 between the clamping bushes and the guide columns into which hydraulic fluid may be introduced to force the damping bushes against the inside of the bores in the closing plate 9. In the other embodiment (Fig. 4), clamping bushes 22 are mounted inside the bores of the closing plate 9 to leave chambers 24 into which hydraulic fluid may be introduced to press the clamping bushes against the guide columns. The pressure pad 10 for exerting the mould closing pressure, and the clamping bushes 15 or 22 are operated by the same hydraulic system, but in the case of the clamping bushes there are included pressure transformers 20 or 26 so that a higher pressure may be applied to the clamping bushes than to the pressure pad 10. The clamping bushes 15 are slipped on to portions of the guide columns of reduced radius and are held on by sleeves 16 screwed on to the guide columns. The clamping bushes 15 may also be screwed on with square-section threads (Fig. 3, not shown). The clamping bushes 22 are mounted in a similar manner and are held on by sleeves 23. In another embodiment the pressure pad 10 is replaced by pressure pads acting between nuts on the ends of guide columns and the outside face of the fixed platen. These pressure pads act against the force of springs mounted at the other end of the guide columns.
