Abstract

1392120 Mould closing devices IMPROVED MACHINERY Inc 26 Sept 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 45104/73 Heading B5A A mould 32, 34 is clamped together by at least one clamping force transmitting means 38, the or each transmitting means being associated with a plurality of pistons 62 for conjointly applying the clamping force to the mould. As shown, the force transmitting means comprises tie rods 38 which are adjustably connected to a movable platen 24 carrying an injection mould part 32, and in the mould-closed position extend through openings in a fixed platen 10 carrying mould part 34. The tie rods 38 are gripped by individual breech mechanisms 40, each comprising breech blocks 44, 46 movable towards and away from the tie rods. The pistons 62 are located in individual cylinders 60 to which fluid under pressure can be admitted through conduits 74, 76. A by-pass passage 80 in each cylinder wall limits the travel of the pistons 62 and prevents overstressing.
