In apparatus feeding tape to a cutter for forming tabs to be inserted between counted batches of sheets, the tape passes from the reel 20, over an idler roller 21 and a looping roller 12, between an intermitted feed roller 6 and a cooperating idler roller 7 and along a channelled guideway 22 beneath a braking pawl 23 to the knife housing 18. The feed roller 6 is mounted on a shaft 2 which is rotated to and fro by a pneumatic device through 270 degrees. The pneumatic device may comprise at least one " wind " vane acted on by a compressed air source or vacuum source, with the return stroke caused by a coil spring. The pneumatic device may also be replaced by an electric motor driven system. The flanges of the feed wheel 6 comprise a pair of cams 4 and 5 which co-operate respectively with a cam follower 9 to disengage the idler roller 7 from the feed roller 6, and a cam follower 15 which operates the knife via linkages 16, 17 and 25. A further cam 3 mounted on the shaft 2 co-operates with a cam follower to rock the looping roller 12. In operation, the looping roller 12 unwinds a certain amount of tape from the reel 20 whilst the tape is prevented from reverse feeding by the pawl 23. The feed roller 6 then co-operates with the idler roller 7 to feed the tape through the guide channel and through the slot 24 in the knife housing 18. The knife is then operated to sever the tap to be inserted between counted batches of sheets 28. A further cam and/or a pawl may be provided to influence the knife in place of the cam 5, whereby cutting of the tape may be effected at an alternative time during the rocking cycle.
