Abstract

1418254 Cutting apparatus GUARDIAN INDUSTRIES CORP 16 Jan 1974 [20 June 1973] 01970/74 Heading B4B A cutting device for severing individual photographic prints from a roll of film 10 comprises a feed means 12, 22 for intermittently feeding the film to a cutting station which includes an oscillatable punch 38 for co-operation with a die 44, 46, the punch and die being shaped such that at each cutting operation a waste portion is cut from between adjacent prints so as to leave them with rounded corners. The punch 38 is mounted on a shaft 36 which is connected by a crank arm 64 to a link 66 adapted to be reciprocated by a drive means, e.g. a cam; the cutting edge of the punch is inclined to provide a shear cut, Fig. 5 (not shown). In operation the film strip is fed by causing a roller 22 rotatably mounted on a pivoted lever 24, to be moved into contact with the film as shown in Fig. 1; the lever is moved by a solenoid under the control of a sensor device 14. After a certain travel determined by the sensor, the lever is moved to raise the roller 22 and cause a brake pad 28 to engage the film during the severing operation. The film is guided between plates 44, 58, the film being urged by a spring plate 60, Fig. 2, against the underside of the upper plate 58.
