Abstract

1,035,765. Feeding webs. SOABER CO. Oct. 9, 1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 38240/62. Heading B6B. [Also in Division D1] A ticket tape is fed by ticket-length increments towards a shearing blade which severs said lengths in succession, and the resulting tickets are successively secured by sewing to soft goods articles. A roll 91 of ticket tape 103 is supported by rollers 92, 93 which are journalled on fixed pins 94, 95 and which are in three sections for adjustably receiving a supporting plate 102 for roll 91 in accordance with the width of the ticket tape. The tape passes over a tensioning leaf spring 108 and through adjustable guides 8, 9 on a bed 7, and is pressed against the latter by a spring-biased finger 111 to prevent retraction of the tape. A member 764 is raisec while the tape is being fed by pawls 132, and falls when the tape is stationary to draw slack tape from the roll 91. The pawls 132, which engage feed slots 121, Fig. 3 (not shown), in the ticket tape, are pivoted on a pin 180 on one arm of a bell crank lever 135 pivoted at 143 to a carriage 131 slidably keyed to a driving shaft 13 which performs one revolution for each cycle comprising a ticket-cutting and a ticket-attaching operation. The other arm of lever 135 carries a follower roller 163 co-operating with a rotary cam 134 slidable on shaft 13 with carriage 131, whereby lever 135 has a fixed angle of oscillation. For feeding tickets of varying lengths, the axial position of carriage 131 on shaft 13 is varied by rotating a shaft 148, having screw-threaded connection with carriage 131, by means of a knob 156. The constant feeding stroke of pawls 132 is slightly greater than the length of the longest ticket, viz. 2 inches. For feeding 1-inch tickets, a bush 188, pivoted on pin 180 and carrying a pin 190, is turned clockwise to engage the latter with the front end of a flat 192 formed in the hub portion 177 journalling pin 180, whereby the pawls 132 are held from engagement with tape 103 during the first half of the feeding stroke by means of the pin 190. For ticket lengths greater than 1 inch, bush 188 is turned counterclockwise to remove pin 190 from engagement with pawls 132. The position of carriage 131 is so adjustable that the pawls 132 in their forward position are at a distance from the cutting blade equal to the ticket length less the distance of the front of the feed slots 121 from the rear edge of the ticket. Since the pawls 132 can operate to within 1¥ inch of the blade, the position of the carriage for 2 and 1¥-inch tickets is in the front part of its adjustment, while for 1“ and 1¢-inch tickets the carriage is adjustable to the rear part of its travel, the pawls then coming to within two ticket lengths of the blade. A pointer on the carriage co-operates with a fixed scale calibrated in ticket lengths.
