Abstract

977,741. Control of heating resistors. ROBERT MACLAREN & CO. Ltd. July 2, 1962 [May 8, 1961; March 12, 1962; March 30, 1962], Nos. 16557/61, 9357/62 and 12240/62. Headings H2B and H2H. A thermostatically controlled immersion heater 10, Fig. 3, is provided with a pair of series relay contacts 14 arranged to open when a thermostat 11 opens so that there is only one heating cycle. A blade 12, Fig. 5, which may be bi-metallic, moves a latch 16 over a catch on member 13a, hence when the blade 12 cools, the contacts open. Alternatively, the blades 12, 13 may be deflected by a solenoid (Fig. 4, not shown). The catch may be manually disengaged with the latch so that the thermostat cycles normally. The relay, an on-off switch and a control for releasing or disengaging the catch may be housed together in a box remote from the heater. The relay may be reset by means of an electromagnet 17.
