977, 356. Electrophotographic developing apparatus. W. ZINDLER, [trading as LUMOPRINT ZINDLER KOM. GES.]. July 11, 1962 [July 27, 1961], No. 26702/62. Heading G2H. Apparatus for applying developer powder to an exposed xerographic material comprises a magnet roller, a container for developer powder into which the roller dips thus forming a brush on the roller and a stripper for removing the brush before the roller re-enters the powder supply. This stripper may be in the form of a knife, or have a serrated edge or be screwshaped. As shown, the apparatus includes a roller 1 rotatable on shaft 5 and having alternate longitudinal north and south poles. A powder brush 4 forms on the drum as it rotates and contacts the exposed material as it passes from rollers 8 and 9 to rollers 10 and 11. The brush 4 is removed by stripper 12. A second stripper 14, in the form of a comb, may be provided in the developer. Instead of having a knife edge 13, the stripper may be a single-thread screw or a screw with opposite threads in each half of the stripper. Alternatively, the middle part of the strip per may be a trough (cf Fig. 2, not shown). In the screw form, it may also act as a stirrer for the developer and for new developer powder which is scrapped off a briquetted rod of developer 32 by the powder brush.
