977,254. Impact mills; mixing sand-lime &c. J. A. HINT, L. S. VANASEL'IA, and U. H. MUISTE. Nov. 27, 1963, No. 46831/63. Headings B1C and B2A. In an impact mill comprising intercalating pins 6, 6<1> provided on rings secured to discs 5, 7 rotatable in opposite directions, the mill casing is provided with a pulsating lining 27. The lining is made of two layers of synthetic resin joined together to form pockets which are connected to a pulsating supply of compressed air. The discs 5, 7 are mounted on shafts 8, 9 driven by electric motors 10, 11. The motor 11, shaft 9 and disc 7 are movable along the axis of shaft 9 by means of a doubleacting pneumatic ram 16, the motor being held in its two extreme positions by a lock 17. Material to be milled is fed in through a shoot 24 provided with a regulating device 25. Means are provided for adding water to the material to be milled. The mill casing comprises a pivoted upper part controlled by a hydraulic ram. Each particle of material as it passes through the mill undergoes at least three massive impacts with an interval between successive impacts of 0À05 seconds, the relative velocity at each impact being at least 15 metres per second. The mill is stated to be suitable for the preparation of mixtures for making sandlime articles, e.g. bricks as described in Specification 943,018.
