977,162. Lathes. WERKZEUGMASCHINENFABRIK GILDEMEISTER & CO. A.G. Dec. 13, 1962 [Dec. 14, 1961], No. 47128/62. Addition to 918,231. Heading B3T. A multi-spindle automatic lathe wherein the work spindles are driven by a number of infinitely variable speed transmissions adapted to be cut in and out independently by electromagnetic clutches, comprises variable speed transmissions 5, 6, 7 with pulleys 8, 9, 10 secured one on each transmission drive shaft. Three coaxial shafts 12, 13, 14 are disposed on the axis of the spindle drum 11 and are veebelt driven from pulleys 10, 8, 9, respectively. The shafts connect through spur-gearing 19, 20, 21 and 28, 29, 30 in co-operation with electromagnetic clutches 28<SP>1</SP>, 29<SP>1</SP>, 30<SP>1</SP> to drive the machine spindles 22 ... 27. Closed rings 31, 32, 33 carry electrical power supply leads 34 ... 39 to the clutches. Speed adjustment to the variable speed transmissions is effected by a servomotor through an electric control circuit. An indicating panel 40 may be positioned on the machine whereby plug-in contacts permit the selection of suitable spindle speeds for each or any spindle.
