Abstract

762,043. Lathes. SCHONDORFF, A. July 16, 1954 [July 18, 1953], No. 20745/54. Class 83 (3). A double-ended lathe comprises two faceplates 4 each rotated by a squirrel-cage induction motor and interconnected by a shaft 23. The fixed headstock 3 carries the motor 21 which rotates the faceplate through gearing 5- 15, including a shiftable gear-pair 13, 14. The similar, but movable, headstock 2 is interconnected by the shaft 23 carrying two doublepinions 22 which can each be adjusted to take up back-lash. The motors receive current from a common supply. If either motor is overloaded, both are cut off. Switches are incorporated in the circuit so that both gear-pairs 13, 14 must be in the same relative positions before the motors can be started.
