Abstract

977,161. Pickling metal sheets. C. OTTO & CO. G.m.b.H. Nov. 22, 1962 [Nov. 22, 1961], No. 44276/62. Heading C7E. In a pickling process the metal sheets are retained in a vertical position and spaced apart in a pickling basket by means of teeth at the bottom of the basket and bolts with tapered ends which are inserted between the sheets and which are supported for free axial movement relative to the teeth. After the pickling process the metal sheets are moved vertically away from the teeth to form a closed packet which is then discharged as a horizontal pack of sheets. The process is carried out in an arrangement comprising a loading device 1, an endless track 2 on which are suspended the pickling baskets which are treated in the baths 4, vibrated and then sprayed with regenerated pickling liquid as they are lifted out of the baths. The baskets are finally discharged in a discharging device 5, Fig. 1. The pickling basket comprises two central columns 12 and a hook 13 for suspending the columns to the track 2. A beam 10 with arms 11 is connected to the lower end of the columns and height adjustable holding means 14 and holding bolts 24 with tapered ends are located at the upper end of the columns. The height of means 14 is adjusted by bolts 14a, Fig. 3b. The pickling basket is positioned on a carriage 17, Fig. 4a, and the metal sheets are stacked on tables 16 mounted on the carriage. The sheets which are fed individually to a height adjustable roller conveyer 18, roll down to a stop 19, are brought into a vertical position by means of a lever 20 and are then charged into the arm 11 of the pickling basket by lowering the conveyer 18 and stop 19. The sheets are positioned between the teeth 22 and 23 of the arm 11, Fig. 5a and the upper part of the sheets abut the bolts 24. The carriage 17 is then moved back by one pitch of the teeth on arm 11, and the arm 27 connected to the carriage releases the bolts 24 which drop between the loaded sheets. With the carriage in the new position the loading is then repeated. After pickling the loaded basket is deposited on a discharging table and driven lifting rollers raise the sheets above the teeth in arms 11, Figs. 7a and 7b (not shown), and the sheets are finally discharged as a horizontal pack on a roller conveyer.
