Abstract

977,111. Self-propelled projectiles. LES FORGES DE ZEEBRUGGE S.A. Feb. 16, 1961 [April 28, 1960], No. 5842/61. Heading F3A. The pivoted stabilizing fins of a self-propelled projectile which, before launching, are held folded down towards the longitudinal axis of the projectile, are unfolded when the projectile leaves the bore of the launching device and are locked in position by the combination at the rear end of the engine tube 1 of a tuyere 15 capable of directing the propulsion gases under pressure on to the surfaces of the fins 5 turned towards the longitudinal axis A-B and pawls 10 adapted to be interposed in the return paths of the unfolded.fins. In the embodiment shown, the tuyere 15 is screwed into a ring 3 which is itself screwed into the rear end of the engine tube 1, the ring 3 serving as a support for a pivot 8 of each fin 5 and a pivot 9 of each pawl 10. As shown in Fig. 3, each pawl 10 is rotated under the action of a spring 13 as the adjacent fin 5 is unfolded until it engages in a groove 7 in the nose 6 of the fin 5 to lock the latter in its unfolded position. The fins 5 and pawls 10 are pivoted between pairs of tongues 4 projecting from the end face of the ring 3. Specification 976,483 is referred to.
