Abstract
976,432. Transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 22, 1962 [June 7, 1961], No. 20568/61. Heading H1T. A current transformer has one or more gaps in its core of such length, or such total length, that the alternating exciting current is not greater than 5% of the alternating primary current of the transformer. The total length of the magnetic (gaps) is of the order of 0.01 inch to 0.1 inch. The effect of the gap is to reduce the remanent flux to enable a much smaller core cross-section to be used as compared with a core having no gaps and to reduce very substantially the peak open-circuit secondary voltage.
