Abstract
976,003. Heat exchanger tubes; refrigerant condensers and evaporators. ALUMINIUMUND METALLWARENFABRIK J. REIERT G.m.b.H. Nov. 7, 1962 [July 13, 1962], No. 42151/62. Headings F4H and F4S. A heat exchanger, such as a refrigerant condenser or evaporator, comprises a sinous tubular member 1 having spaced apart arms 1a, and secondary heat exchange surfaces formed by thinner elongate members all extending transversely to the arms 1a and in the same general direction as one another, said members being fixed to the arms la and shaped so that their longitudinal axes are not straight between adjacent arms, or so that they have portions of greater surface area per unit length than the portions attached to the arms. As shown, Fig. 2, the arms 1a are coplanar and are joined by U- bends 1b, and wires A are fixed to the arms la at sections 2, and have intermediate sections 3 of any suitable waveform. Each wire is formed in a single plane which is parallel to the planes of the other wires, and these planes may be normal to or at an acute angle to the plane of the tube 1, the wires in the latter case preferably having their planes staggered on the two sides of the tube, Fig. 4. An alternative form of elongate member, Fig. 5, has a straight longitudinal axis and is formed with flattened portions 3c intermediate the arms la. These portions 3c are coplanar, and their plane may be normal to or at an acute angle to the plane of the tube 1. The centre part of each flattened portion may be thinner than the other parts. The cross-section of the elongate elements may be circular, polygonal, or any suitable form, and these elements and the tube 1 may be of metal or of plastics material.
