974,908. Rolling. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. June 15, 1962, No. 23054/62. Heading B3M. [Also in Division G3] In an arrangement wherein a material being rolled is fed in a straight line between stands 12, 22, 32, 42, 52, the stands are resiliently mounted so that the position of the stand is a measure of the difference in the tensions on the two sides of the stand. The difference in tension is sensed by a device as disclosed in Specification 970,196. A stand 32 is arbitrarily chosen as a base to determine the production speed of the stands and a driving motor 33 is retroactively controlled in dependence on a comparison between the output of a tachogenerator 34 and a reference voltage 600. The remaining stands 12, 22, 42, 52 are speed controlled in dependence on reference voltages 601, 602, 604, 605 as modified by the tension signals from sensing devices 11, 21, 31, 41, 51 as limited by devices 101, 201, 401, 501, and amplified by proportional-integral amplifiers 102, 202, 402, 502. The control is such that the driving motor of stand 12 is controlled by tension signals from device 21 as well as device 11 and the driving motor of stand 52 is controlled by signals from devices 41, 51. The device 31 is employed when the control is modified as indicated by the dotted lines. In an addition to the arrangement screw motors for the stands are adjusted to provide coarse tension regulation.
