Abstract

974,630. Transfer devices. SHEPPEE MOTOR & ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 29, 1963 [Nov. 13, 1962], No. 42856/62. Heading B8A. A device for transferring glass containers from a conveyer 21 to the moving belt 29 of a lehr 31 comprises a horizontal pusher bar 19 which, in sweeping the containers from one conveyer to the other, executes a compound movement an initial part of which has two components, one transverse of the conveyer 21 and one longitudinally of the conveyer 21. The bar 19 is pivotally secured to the ends of arms 11, 13 (Fig. 3) and the arms are secured to spindles 7, 9 which are rotatable and reciprocable in main cross members 3, 5. A slide member 57 is connected to the spindles 7, 9 and is reciprocable by a spiral cam 33 of which the track 51 is engaged by a peg 53 depending from the slide member 57. A plate cam 35 causes rotation of the spindles 7, 9 by a cam follower 36, a stub shaft 38 and chain and sprocket drives 41, 47, 49, 39, 43, 45; both the cams 33, 35 are mounted on a driven shaft 37. After the initial part of the movement of the pusher bar 19, the bar moves transverse to the conveyer 21 and pushes the containers across a dead plate 27 on to the belt 29. The cams 33, 35 then cause a return and lift motion of the bar which clears the containers on the belt and is then lowered into its initial position behind further articles to be transferred. The pusher bar has a surface of heat-resisting material, e.g. asbestos, so that if the containers are hot and newly-formed they are not cooled suddenly and cracked.
