974,400. Reciprocating pumps. M. ROHWER, E. ROHWER, and K. ROHWER, [trading as F. ROHWER [firm of]]. Feb. 22, 1963 [March 3, 1962], No. 7167/63. Heading F1A. In a reciprocating pump for viscous material, such as sausage meat, one or more groups of at least two cylinders are provided, the pump pistons being driven by a pressure fluid supplied to each cylinder in turn. The cylinders 1, 2 are filled from a common container, which contains a stirring and feeding mechanism for the sausage meat. Compressed air is admitted to a conduit 24 by actuating a handle 29 which opens a diaphragm switch 25 when the valve 14 of a discharge nozzle 8 is closed. A cam 41 holds open a valve 26 and compressed air acts on the piston 13. The pressure in the cylinder 2 is transmitted to a diaphragm 55 which expands and holds the switch 25 open as long as there is pressure in the tube 6. When the piston 13<SP>1</SP> reaches its uppermost position the pressure in the tube 6 drops and the switch 25 is closed. A push-button 49 is actuated and air passes to a cylinder 35 to actuate a rack 38 which rotates a shaft 9. The cover 5 moves from the cylinder 2 to the cylinder 1, the cam 41 opens a valve 27 and a cam 46 on a rack 44 resets the valve 31 for the following cycle.
