Abstract
1405060 Dosing apparatus BAYER AG 7 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 27165/73 Heading B1C Apparatus for supplying controlled quantities i.e. "doses" of two components used in the formation of moulded plastics material to a mixing chamber comprises a hydraulic piston and cylinder unit 6, 7, and 8 in a housing 1 the piston rod 4 having at one end a first dosing piston 15 in a cylinder portion 16 formed by an extension of the housing 1. The other end of the rod carrying by way of rods 29 and flange 28 a second dosing cylinder 25 which is displaceable relative to a fixed second dosing piston 27 secured to a partition 26 within the housing 1, the actuation of the hydraulic piston 6 in its cylinder causing simultaneous displacement of the first dosing piston and the second dosing cylinder. The components to be supplied individually to the mixing chamber 22 from respective reservoirs (not shown) are drawn into the respective dosing cylinder 16, 25 through pipes 21 and 41 and ports 17 and 35 as the piston and cylinder assembly 6 is moved to the left as shown in Figure 2, whereat valves 18 and 43 are closed and the piston rod 4 actuates a switch 47 by way of cam 46 to operate valve 45 to open the ports to the mixing chamber and at the same time the reversing valve 11 is operated whereby the piston 6 is displaced to the right, as shown in Fig 1 to cause the respective components to be ejected from the dosing cylinders through lines 20 and 42 into the mixing chamber 22. The length of stroke of the differential dosing piston 34 is controlled to control the quantity of the components injected, and is effected by actuation of a screwed stop member 53, within the extension 36 of the housing 2, which forms an adjustable stop against which the piston 34 abuts. The operation of the member 53 is by way of gears 54, 55 driven from a motor 37 which is controlled by the hydraulic means 14.
