Abstract

974,257. Pulp supply in paper-making machines. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. June 14, 1962 [June 15, 1961], No. 22977/62. Heading D2A. Pulp supply apparatus for a paper-making machine includes a passage connecting a supply duct with a discharge orifice, the passage including a 180 degrees bend and being reduced in cross-section at the bend to cause acceleration of the fluid stock. Although a single passage may be employed it is preferred that fluid from external supply ducts should enter by a pair of opposed upper and lower conical inlets 13,14 dimensioned to maintain constant pressure over their lengths. From the conical inlets the fluid is then directed through orifices 28, 29 so arranged relative to the slice lips 25 as to discharge the fluid from the orifices parallel to the direction of flow from the slice. Fluid from inlets 13,14 combines and mixes at 32, is accelerated through orifice 33 into deceleration chamber 34, followed by acceleration through slice lips 25. A rectifier roll may be mounted in the deceleration chamber. Air trapped in inlets 13, 14 escapes through holes 35, 36 into ducts 37, 38 vented to atmosphere. The slice lips 25 form a part of a flexible member 23 that may be adjusted for height, graduated scales and indicators being provided.
