Abstract

972,932. Spinnerets for sheath and core filament production. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. Feb. 5, 1963 [Feb. 10, 1962], No. 5193/62. Heading B5B. A spinneret for the manufacture of sheath and core type of hetero or composite filaments comprises a plate having in the upper or inlet face thereof a bore and in the lower face thereof an extrusion orifice communicating with the bore, a hollow insert having in the lower end thereof an extrusion orifice, terminating above and out of contact with the extrusion orifice in the lower face of the plate, secured firmly in the bore, the lower portion of the insert being of smaller diameter than that of the bore to provide a space of annular cross-section around the lower portion of the insert, and a material supply duct communicating with this space. The hollow portion of the insert and the extrusion orifice are coaxial and the two axes are in the same vertical line. As shown in the drawing, a stainless steel plate A has a stepped bore B in which C is a locating shoulder and which terminates in an orifice D. The wall of the portion E of the bore B above the shoulder C is threaded to allow a hollow insert F, the upper portion of which is threaded and provided with a shoulder, to be screwed in and located in position on the shoulder C, the top of the insert F then being flush with the upper face of the plate A. The diameter of the lower end G of the insert F is smaller than that of the bore B, thus forming a space L of annular cross-section, which communicates with the material supply duct M, between the insert and the plate, the main body of the insert F being a close fit in the hole B. The hollow portion H of the insert F terminates in the orifice I, the axis of which lies on the same vertical line as that of the orifice D. Slot K is cut in the top of the insert to facilitate the removal and replacement of the insert. The orifices D and I are prefer. ably of equal diameter. Specifications 579,081 and 805,033 are referred to.
